Trees are Terrific

Kelowna teacher, Sharon Affeld introduces us to Pierre – a lively acorn -
gives kids the low down on trees and why we need them. Young children, 5-8
years old (K-2) learn the parts of a tree, all about leaves and how trees
change during the different seasons. It is a wonderful way for young
students to learn about trees. (Also available in Spanish…)

Teachers Using PDA’s

How are teachers using portable data assistants (pda) devices? In discussing
this with some friends (Donna, Randy, Andy, Dave…) I think there are a LOT
of ways in which pda-use by teachers can make our jobs easier.

Feel free to post, comment, discuss, ask… How do pda’s help YOU? How do
they hinder? Have any questions that need an answer? Have any answers? What
are the hot trends in mobile computing for the classroom?

Wired for Words

Calgary teacher and librarian Irene Masciuch wrote about a project she?s
involved in:

?This is a site for avid readers. It has been designed by Teacher librarians
with the Calgary Board of Education in Calgary, Alberta. There are 6 books
featured every month in the four different age groups of 4-8, 9-12, 13-16
and young adult. The ones from the previous month are moved to the past
list. Students can use this to find books to read. They are invited then to
go and post a review. All reviews are checked out by teacher librarians
before they are posted. Students can read the posting that other students
have sent in. it is a great way for students to interact with others and
share what they are excited about in books. Classroom teachers have used
this for reading and writing assignments. Whole class reviews or small group
reviews have been submitted. This is a great place for parents and teachers
to use to find great titles for kids to read.?
