It’s that time again to mention a project that my friend, Cynthia
Peterson, has coordinated.? How many people are aware that the second
largest winter sporting event in the world starts at Torino in less than
two weeks? The Winter Paralympics run from March 10-19, 2006. Here the
best of the world’s elite athletes with a disability will compete for
medals, in many cases in the same venues used by their able-bodied
peers. Events include ice sledge hockey, biathlon, wheelchair curling,
and alpine and cross-country skiing. For more information about the
history of the Paralympics, as well as lesson plans, images, and web
links, visit Paralympics: Where Heroes Come.

This site features a free online interactive tutorial for pre-algebra
students that is rich in games, puzzles, and other visual media
content.? It is an excellent resource for parents and educators of
students at the middle-school level.? Access to the tutorial requires no
fee or registration.

I heard about this from my friend Michelle Huot, in which her colleague,
Michelle Goodale, was a participant. Geodesic domes are made of
interlocking geometric shapes–often triangles. Because loads are spread
over many triangles, these domes are especially strong. Often made of
aluminum bars and plexiglass, they?re also light compared to ordinary domes.

Here’s that other amazing Inspiration template site. It’s great because
it includes both elementary and junior high and intends to collect
templates for the high school level as well. Plus, the templates are
very thorough. And… includes templates for Thinking Maps which many
schools are using.
