My jaw dropped when I got this site from my pal, Steve Fitzjohn. He came across Pixlr, an online image editor that does layers and requires nothing but a browser. It has a lightning-fast startup and a few of the commands seem to take a moment but it’s very powerful.

Kelowna teacher, Sharon Affeld, sent this page on optical illusions and visual phenomena. Site owner, Michael Bach, has put together a vast supply of resources that are suitable for use in the classroom.

Rose Bright and Andy Closky told me that Scholastic’s I Spy (a classic with the elementary crowd) are now online. This site features a few different scenes. I won’t tell you that I spent more time trying to find that darned nail than I care to admit…

I got this information from a friend at work. (No names requested…) Tilt-shift miniature faking is a process in which a photograph of a life-size location or object is manipulated so that it looks like a photograph of a miniature scale model. By distorting the focus of the photo, the artist simulates the shallow depth of field normally encountered with macro lenses making the scene seem much smaller than it actually is. There seems to be some agreement that this technique was used in last season’s CSI episodes regarding “The Miniatures Killer” – and this will make it easy to create your own using Photoshop.
