TILT TV – Student-created Graphic Organizer Activities

It’s time for another episode of TILT (that’s Teachers Improving Learning with Technology) from my pal, Danny Maas. “Having students create their own graphic organizers with key words or phrases, multimedia, connections, color, and layout can be a great way for them to develop visual literacy and thinking skills, construct and represent knowledge, and show the connections between their ideas and understandings.”

Poll Everywhere for Education

I saw this nifty site demonstrated at a seminar the other day. The speaker, Rick Stiles-Oldring, from Edmonton Public Schools, used PollEverywhere to demonstrate how the common cellphone can be used as a classroom response system. As Rick put it, we know students have them and they’re probably using them in your class anyhow… Seriously though, the time has come when some might be able to look at harnessing student-owned devices. Here’s an easy way to start – and there is no cost for a single teacher’s account.

Newseum – Today’s Front Pages

My sister-in-law told me about this one – just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up… Double click the dot and the page gets larger – you can read the entire paper on some if you click on the right place. Also, if you look at the European papers, the far left side of Germany will pop up as The Stars & Stripes (European edition, of course).. AND, this site changes every day with the publication of new editions of the paper. What a great way for lessons on global perspective and worldwide interactions.
