Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir

Long-standing List member, Daphne Gonzalvez, reminded me about Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir. He composed a beautiful choral piece and realized that people were singing it on YouTube. It brought him to realize that he could collect hundreds of recordings and mix them into a comprehensive performance – from people he has never met. It’s an amazing story that is outlined on his blog and of course, if YouTube is blocked at your school, you’ll have to see it at home. There are several other productions of his as well – have a look around for them, including his TED talk.

And speaking of collaboration, that brings the 14th year of The Teacher List to a close! Thanks to everyone who has joined us this year (membership has grown by 800+ in the last year), made suggestions and supported the project over the last year. Have a restful summer break and we’ll begin again in September.
-Pete

In November 2012, members of the Belize Ministry of Education, principals, and lead teachers met in each of the six districts for two days of conversations and discussions around the challenges and next steps in integrating technology to support teaching and learning in Belize. The sessions highlighted global trends and challenges from the K-12 Horizon Report, the National Education Technology Standards (NETS) for students, teachers, and administrators, as well as an overview of the content from the August 2012 technology workshop for teachers.
