Word Clouds for Kids

wordcloudsforkidsMy pal, Janice Sundar, told me about @ABCyaGames’ “Word Clouds For Kids.” One problem with other tag or word cloud sites is that it is difficult for students to save their work as an image that can be placed in another project. Word Clouds For Kids makes it very easy for students to print or save their results as a jpg. There are some basic controls like a slider to adjust the number of words used and the results can be edited for color, font, layout, etc.

Aim High 101 Tips

List member Kevin Cantelon suggested this collection of Teen Tips. I wonder if sometimes we take for granted that our students have read the manual and already know these things?

Subject-Verb Agreement

Here’s a Twenty Questions interactive that tests a student’s grammar knowledge. The verb is removed from each statement in a cloze activity. Students receive immediate feedback about each answer and if they make a mistake, the response explains the correct answer.

This Day in Computer History

The Computer History Museum maintains this interactive calendar. Landing on the current date, students are informed the anniversaries of events both well-known and obscure. There are other features on the site such as a timeline of computer history, a look at Internet history from 1962-1992, an examination of microprocessors from 1971 to 1996 and many other resources.

Paperkit Graph Paper Generator

There are a few graph paper generators out there but this one caught my eye for its customization features. Students can set the paper size and then control the margin, the size of the graph as well as stroke color and thickness. There are also dotted and lined designs available. When you’re all set, click the download button to save a PDF version.

Adobe Education Exchange – Updated!

Yesterday, Adobe launched a revised Education Exchange. It’s now easier to find and share teaching resources for your use and the use of your students. It’s been gamified with the opportunity to earn points and badges for participation. The community of practice grows even further with discussion forums and a brand new Professional Development area that provides no-cost, online, on-demand learning of Adobe products for you. Sign in with your usual Adobe I.D. (no-cost and easy to sign up) and don’t forget to update your Adobe Ed Exchange plug-in for your copy of Photoshop.
