List member, Nicole Anderson, is really excited about this site and app called Educreations. Here’s her description: “[EduCreations] is a very simple to use whiteboard-ish screen that lets you write with your finger or type text anywhere on imported pictures or different kinds of provided lined paper or on a white page. But the best part is that it allows you to record your voice while you’re working then sends it to your web account where it is saved as a video clip so you can share the student’s work with audio with your class on a projector, email it, etc. I am using it for a student with mild cerebral palsy. We can take a picture of the worksheet and she can complete it on the ipad. Or using it in math class to record students problem solving and mental math strategies WHILE they are solving instead of me scribing (student independence!!!) or the student trying to write down how they solved it afterwards. How about showing the class 2 students working on a problem together and the conversation they engage in. I think it can also be used just on the internet with a headset but the app makes it so accessible!”

After yesterday’s recommendation, I got to wondering what ever happened to the New Games movement. Remember the parachute games and Earth balls we were all using as summer playground leaders in the 80′s? The New Games Foundation is no longer around but one of the people connected to it, Bernie DeKovan, has this awesome site called Junkyard Sports. I leave it at that but do check out “Stuffie Wars” – it looks like a lot of fun!

My pal, Andy Lummis, sent this site to me. Playsport is a collection of developmental games for children that offers searchable games in four categories – Target, Net/Wall, Striking/Fielding, and Invasion/Territory. Based on the “Teaching Games for Understanding”, activities also focuse upon a specific FUNdamental skill and fosters the development of physical literacy across a wide range of activities.

I got this site the other day from my pal, Theresa Paltzat. Pro-Music.org is a digital music portal that has three main categories. The first is a collection of music services where students can find sources of music online. The second is a question/answer section that discusses how to legally access music online. And the third section offers information about the music industry in general, including a collection of educational resources. As students and teachers continue to increase their reliance on digital audio assets in their studies, this site will be an excellent trailhead for everyone.

Thanks to my pal, Daryl Jones, who suggested this site when I was looking for a simple way to add pop-ups to a photograph. ThingLink allows a student to add video, images, audio, links and text to photographs to enhance their digital storytelling projects. It’s perfect for those with younger students or who are starting down the road to more complex digital storytelling tasks.

Here’s one I haven’t recommended in a long while but I use it all the time. I don’t meet a lot of teachers who relish teaching student to cite the resources they use in school projects. Citation Machine makes it easy by having students (and teachers) fill out a simple form and the properly formatted citation is provided for inclusion into a bibliography or other resources list. Common formatting includes MLA, APA, Turabian, and Chicago. The forms accept multiple types of resources from print, web, images, audio and so on.

This site, by the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities forum, offers a range of globally-relevant resources for teachers and students as they learn to manage their online presence. PAW is held each year to promote greater privacy awareness and the importance of protecting personal information.
