MathMaster.org

mathmasterList member, Gord Crutchley, pointed out a site called MathMaster.org where they gathered math tutorial videos (Looks like mostly Khan Academy) and paired them with the ability to make up worksheets that cover all sorts of mathematical topics and grades. You’ll also find some science topics as well. The worksheets are generated with random questions so you get a different sheet each time and they download as pdf documents.

Pattern Lessons

Here’s a collection of simple online number pattern interactives. Choose from a range of simple to challenging patterning activities and a student can fill in their answer and click on “Check” to see if they made a correct entry or not. The only thing I found a bit confusing is that once you choose an activity, you have to scroll down on the page in order to see the activity.

Belize Week: Scuba Diving Lesson Plan

In this Illuminations lesson, students will explore various real-world applications of different forms of measurement, including time and distance. They will make estimations and calculations. Throughout the unit, students will be using online resources to plan a diving trip to Belize. They’ll learn more about Belize’s Barrier Reef, travel planning with dates and flights, time differences and a host of other mathematical calculations.

Decanting Puzzle

I used this Flash interactive the other day in a presentation to get things started. It’s a fun puzzle that your students can work on together at a Smartboard. Level One, the only one I can get past, can be done in no fewer than six steps. Quick usability tip – drag the container to the tap to fill; to another container to transfer and to the toilet to empty.

All the Medalists: Men’s 100-Meter Sprint

My Aussie pal, Nic Ryan, showed me this examination that compares the historical results of the Men’s 100 Metre Sprint in the Olympic Games. It starts by asking, “Usain Bolt’s 9.63 set an Olympic record in the 100. So how far ahead of every Olympic medalist is he?” The perspective is really interesting! There are other similar features that compare the Long Jump and the 100 Metre Freestyle.

Counting to 50 or 100

Here’s a fun one for primary counting lessons – use a mouse to connect the dots in order to make a picture. This ABCya site allows students to count by ones or by twos and are rewarded with a drawing they helped to create. It’s quick and easy. The interactive does not indicate if a click is incorrect but it will count the clicks and provide a summary at the end.

In November 2012, members of the Belize Ministry of Education, principals, and lead teachers met in each of the six districts for two days of conversations and discussions around the challenges and next steps in integrating technology to support teaching and learning in Belize. The sessions highlighted global trends and challenges from the K-12 Horizon Report, the National Education Technology Standards (NETS) for students, teachers, and administrators, as well as an overview of the content from the August 2012 technology workshop for teachers.
